About Bovec and Soca Valley
Things to do in Bovec

Is it the first time you are visiting Soča Valley? Continue reading to find out 5 top things to do in Bovec during your stay. All bellow mentioned activities are great for spring, summer and fall. We do not recommend them on colder and rainy days.
1. Visit an Adventure Park
If zipline is too adventurous for you or if you are traveling with children, then you might opt for a softer version. There are two adventure parks in Bovec. Srnica adventure Park was build for anyone who likes moving above a canyon, surrounded by rocks and water. The park is placed in the middle of the wildest nature and has many mini ziplines. If you feel your children are too young for Srnica, then maybe you can choose the Adventure Park Bovec. the latter is very popular also among the youngest children who enjoy being high up on the trees, where they have to overcome many obstacles.
2. Whiteriver rafting
Rafting on Soča river is one of the most popular activity in the valley. It requires no prior knowledge, but every participant has to know how to swim. If you have never been rafting before or you have little experience with rafting on wild rivers like Soča, we highly advise you to book a rafting tour with one of many local sports agencies. When to go rafting? How to choose the best sport agency? You can find all information regarding whiteriver rafting on Soča river HERE. In reviews, our guests often say that our apartments are walking distance from the river, making it great for all water activities as well as chilling and relaxing by the water.
3. Zipline in Bovec area
If you are searching for an adrenaline adventure and a great view, but are not a fan of water, than zipline may be the best choice for you. This is actually also the easiest way of enjoying great views without having to climb a mountain. There are two ziplines in the area. Učja is known as the longest zipline in the valley. The Učja valley is green and silent, you will not meet many hikers, so you will most probably be able to enjoy the wildness and tranquility. On the other hand you might be required to walk more and the views might not be as breathtaking as on Mt. Kanin. Zipline from Kanin is overall shorter, but has longer ropes. Also the view is amazing. They will bring you up to the starting point by a mountain car, which is also a special experience. It's hard to say which zipline is better, so we really advise you to check out the pictures and decide on your own.
4. Kayaking and Canyoning
Soča Valley attracts many sport enthusiasts who love kayaking, especially during spring and fall, when the water levels are the highest. In recent years, also canyoning is gaining popularity. So far it has reached the third place of the most popular water sports in Bovec. There are many sport agencies who offer kayaking tours. You can find everything, from short few hours long tours to 1 weeek long kayak courses. You can also choose to rent a kayak. The latter is by far the cheapest option. However, if you have never been kayaking on Soča river before, we advise you to take a tour instead. The river can be very unpredictable, especially after rain. Moreover, when kayaking on your own, you might encounter some logistical problems how to get back to the starting point with a kayak. If you don't have 2 cars an option would be to wait for the bus or for one person to hitchhike back to the starting point and then drive the car to the ending point to pick up the other person and the kayak.
On the other hand, canyoning can be done also after heavy rain, when the water level rises significantly. Higher water levels makes the jumps easier and safer. Canyoning can only be done with a professional sport agency who knows the terrain. The most popular location for doing canyoning are Fratarca waterfalls in the village Log pod Mangartom.
5. Home-made pancakes on Mangart saddle
We have saved the best activity for the last one. Mangart saddle has long been known for many things. Firstly, to get there you must take the Mangart road, the highest mountain road in Slovenia. The road is quite steep, curvy and narrow, that's why it's great for bicycles, bikers and anyone who is not afraid of heights. No need to say that the views are really breathtaking. However, once you get to Mangart saddle, a whole new world appears in front of you. You can admire Mt. Mangart (2679m), the fourth highest mountain in Slovenia, as well as it's beautiful lakes. Once there, we really recommend visiting the cottage, where they serve delicious home-made pancakes.
Please note that due to the high altitude (2072m), Mangart road is open only limited time. Typically it opens in June or early July (depending on the weather conditions) and closes in late Fall (October or November). To protect the nature, there is an eco tax to enter the road by car and only a limited number of cars are allowed on the road each hour. This is why many guests decide to either go by bicycles or take the Hop-on Hop-off bus from Bovec center to Mangart saddle. The bus departures from Bovec bus station every day in July and August at 5:05, 13:30 and 17:00. The cost of a single drive for an adult is 3€. Children up to 6 years old have a free ride, whereas children 6-15yrs pay only 1.5€. You can return back with the same bus at 6:05, 14:20 and 17:55. The cottage on Mangart saddle is open every day in July, August and September.
Opening hours might change from year to year, this is why we reccommend you check out all information when planning your trip.
