Bovec Must See

Soča Valley has many natural wonders that are really breathtaking. There are at least 6 things you must see during your stay. Continue reading if you would like to find out which sights you should not miss out.

The great Soča gorge

The great as well as the small Soča canyon is certainly the most famous spot to see in Bovec area. After centuries of digging, Soča river has managed to create amazing "holes" into the ground. You will be able to have a look at all it's beauty completely free of charge. Gorges are also a perfect place for courageous visitors to jump in the ice cold water. It's certainly something that will change you forever. This natural spot is also surrounded by many trees, which make it perfect place to cool down on hot summer days.

Waterfall Virje

If you are searching for a romantic spot where to relax, then you should definitely visit the waterfall Virje. You can park just minutes walk from this natural wonder. Once there you can also visit the source of Glijun creek as well as the Srnica cave, which is a short 30 minute walk from the main attractions.

Šunik water grove

Personally, this is my favorite spot. There is nothing better than walk alongside a creek, surrounded by forest and admire all the small waterfalls and ponds. At the end of this short 20 minute hike you will see an old mill. What's the best part? There is no admission fee.

Waterfall Boka

Even if you have little time, this is a waterfall that you should see. It will really not take you long as it's so big that you will be able to see it even from the road. However if you do have at least 30 minutes, I would really suggest you take a short walk to the viewing platform, where you will be able to make great pictures. If you have more time, you can hike up to the top and admire the waterfall very closely. It's a medium difficult hike, so I would recommend to wear good hiking shoes.

Waterfall Kozjak

If you are heading down to the south towards the coast, you will most probably pass Kobarid. It's a small town 25 minute drive from Bovec, but it has a lot to offer. There is the river Nadiža that is warm enough for swimming. You also should also stop to see the two famous Napoleon bridges. Finally, there is the waterfall Kozjak that's really worth seeing. There are many waterfalls everywhere, so why would Kozjak be so special? I think it's about the whole experience when you enter this narrow valley, It's a very pleasant hiking trail and there is something about good energy of the water and the waterfall Kozjak, that convinces many to visit it. There is an entry fee, which ensures the place is well maintained and that there are not too many visitors all at once.

Tolmin gorges

On your way to the coast you will also pass a small town called Tolmin. Tolmin is famous for many festivals and events in nature, but nothing compares to it's main attraction: Tolmin gorges. You should plan at least few hours if not the whole day. If you would like to avoid paying the entry fee, you can visit the park off the season in late fall, winter of early spring.

There you have it. A short list of Bovec must see in 2024!
