Go hiking/mountaineering or rock climbing in the Julian Alps - there is a vast array of walking opportunities to be had, where mighty mountain peaks weave together with sheep and goat pastures criss-crossed with trails, streams, rivers, and waterfalls to make some wonderful scenery.

• Skiing
Kanin (2km from Bovec) is the only ski resort in Slovenia that extends above 2000m. The season begins in December and lasts until the end of April.
There is development underway to build a link to the ski resort of Sella Nevea in Italy – planned completion date for Dec 2008. This will extend the size of the ski resort to 40km.

• Fishing
For those who prefer to relax, there is great fishing to be done on the Soca river, populated with marble trout, brown trout and Soca grayling. The marble trout can grow to enormous sizes, the record stands at 20 kg (40 lb). Each season, trophy sized fish of several kilos are taken.
The Soca river overflows its banks occasionally in June and July due to melting snow. The best period for fishing usually occurs in late August and September, but if conditions are favourable, also in April, May and June. You can hire equipment in Bovec.
On the banks of the stunning Soca River (one of the most beautiful rivers in Europe), Bovec is a mecca for water/mountain based adventure seekers. Cascading down from the Julian Alps, the crystal-clear waters of the Soca river offer the ideal conditions for a variety of adventurous activities along different stretches of the river. Choose between rafting, kayaking, canoeing, hydrospeed, and canyoning.
